The 2012 annual meeting will be March 1-3, 2012 in St. Petersburg, Florida, with pre-meeting workshops on March 1. For those of you who are new to team based learning, consider sessions under the Fundamentals Track, where you will learn the essential skills to start and improve a team-based learning program at your own institution. Check out the sessions under the Fundamentals Track, which will help you perfect your skills in managing TBL activities. For those of you who have gained some expertise in team-based learning, we have two exciting tracks to help you expand and improve your team-based learning classes. The Innovations Track will focus on novel and creative ways to develop and perfect your team-based learning skills. In the Research/Scholarship Track educators will present methods related to educational research or research studies about team-based learning.
This is the single best introduction to TBL. It is conducted in a TBL format, participants must prepare ahead, take an IRAT, and engage actively with their assigned team members. The structure, process, and essential characteristics of an effective TBL module are emphasized.
By the conclusion of this workshop, the participant will be able to:
1) Explain the key components of a successful TBL module.
2) Outline how they would construct a TBL module from a set of objectives.
3) Describe how they might convert a course/lecture they already teach into a TBL module.
